Some questions and answers:

How long should I stay at Hotel Fewa?
Many people come through Pokhara for one night before and after trekking. They typically complain that had they Known how nice it would be here, they would have scheduled in a couple more days. Each person, of course has his or her own constraints, asperations, and needs so a definitive answer to the question is not possible for all alike. We could say that even the most action-oriented people do not become bored with a four-day stay. This could be considered a minimum for those who have enough time. Many like to stay longer.

What does one do while staying at Hotel Fewa?
On clear mornings, many guests catch an early morning taxi to Sarankot to watch the sunrise on the Annapurna range. Some return by the same taxi while others wiol walk back down. The superlatives flow when they return.

Another favorite outing is to take a boat across the lake and climb to the new stupa on the ridge top. On a clear day this is also a beautiful view of the mountains and the lake. Then a gradual desent through the woods brings one back to the town near the dam at the south-east end of the lake. This all takes three or four hours.

There are many other day hikes possible although many guests like to spend their time shopping, boating on the lake, wandering or biking around the town, or swimming in the lake. Most guests, however, spend a lot of time just sitting on the terrace by the lake.

What about the monsoon?
A woman came last August to stay a few days at Hotel Fewa and ended up staying almost four months with intermittent trekking. She thought the monsoon was the best time to be here. She would swim in the lake every day, read the write and spend her time getting to know the other guests, the hotel staff and some townspeople.

The monsoon is the most beautiful time of the year in Nepal. The hils and forests are at their greenest. There are waterfalls on the hillsides and beautiful green fields of rice. From time to time the clouds part and there are beautiful glimpses of the Himalaya with fresh snow. The water of Lake Fewa is at its freshest and highest level and is just righr for swimming.

The rains come mostly at night with partly sunny days although there can also be random showers during the days and an occasional all day rain. It is unpredictable for trekking, and at certain altitudes there are leeches in the woods. It is however, a good time to fly to jomsom which is in the rain shadow of the Himalaya.

There are also fewer tourists than Nepalis seen on the streets of lakeside. And, there are off season discounts.

What is the most under-rated month for visiting Pokhara?
February.
